Mabon, the Autumnal Equinox, occurs around 21st September - although the date varies from year to year depending on when the actual equinox occurs astronomically, so it's more accurate to say that it falls between 20th-23rd September. Mabon marks the beginning of Autumn in the pagan calendar - opposite to Ostara, it is a sign that the wheel of the year is almost at an end.
A time of harvests, of reaping what we have sown and nurtured throughout the year - whether it be crops or the seeds of good intentions.
Rich autumnal colours are the order of the day - my taste in clothing around Mabon reflects the colours seen in the leaves beginning to fall from the trees: rich russets, oranges and browns.
Another time for quiet contemplation in my life - I try to collect conkers and fallen leaves that catch my eye, whilst pondering on the things which I've achieved, and those which are just coming to fruition.
Autumn is also the time to harvest seeds from your plants - making ready for the next cycle of the year. That which you gather now will help your garden bloom next summer - the cycle of the year continues.
